Learning Management System

What is a learning management system?

A learning management system (LMS) is a type of computer software that streamlines education and training. Companies use LMS for employee training. Educational institutions use LMS for student instruction. Modern LMS generally include self-directed training courses or modules. Digital training is also called eLearning. An LMS allows HR teams to customize, manage and track employee training in a centralized location. The new hire training component is often integrated with onboarding or performance management software.

The first modern LMS appeared around 1990. Until the introduction of cloud computing, companies could purchase ready-made software or have custom LMS built for their organizations. In the past few years, many LMS companies have introduced a SaaS version of their products.

How large is the learning management system market?
